The Community Safety Specialist (CSS) role is designed to increase community safety, reduce crime and violence, by investing more deeply in our communities and relationships.
Trained to recognize the impact of homelessness, mental health, addiction, domestic abuse and other sources of trauma and stress, the CSS works with other community agencies to provide services that can help address short and long-term community problems.
Community Safety Specialists are embedded in the community on a day-to-day basis, and are trained in conflict resolution, de-escalation, mediation and other non-violent approaches to conflict. Using these tools, Specialists build and support positive solutions to community problems and increase the safety and security of residents, organizations and businesses in ways that reach beyond what traditional police and private security alone can provide.
